Paralleloslice - Camera Lens Bracelet
Description
I had the strangest high school calculus teacher. Her name was Ms. England (not English though) and she was conservatively frumpy, but that's par for the course when it comes to high school calculus teachers. The strange part was her subtle, quirky sense of humor. Not in that dorky high-school-calculus-teacher kind of way. No, she was different. She spent an entire class period telling this story about cannonballs on old warships and it being wintery and cold out and the metal of the cannonball racks contracting and the balls falling out and stuff. Long story short, we were all trying to figure out where she was going with this cockamamy story and how it related to calculus.Thirty seconds before the bell rang for the end of the day (this was 7th period, after all), she rounded it all out with, "And that's the origin of the phrase 'it's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.'"
We were stunned, most of us not really getting the whole joke and puzzled by the wry smile on her face. And I don't expect you too, either. But that's not the point. The point is that I spent the rest of the afternoon chuckling to myself about how much time and effort she had put into this carefully calculated calculus joke. That's all I remember about that class. And that's why I avoided math from then on and pursued a more artistic education.
Anywho, that has absolutely NOTHING to do with this bracelet. I'm sure you could draw some parallel (ba-dum ching!) between its geometrically-inspired name and mathematics, but that's just going too far. Kind of like telling this whole story about one's math teacher in an Etsy listing. Sheesh!
So here's the scoop: Paralleloslice is beautiful, from its two-tone matte black finish to the soft satin-brushed edges, and its carefully calculated slices, like an abstract heart-rate monitor. Blip. Blee-blip. Blip. There are various screw-holes and a couple smooth, curved notches that just add to its aesthetic. This is the third bracelet in the Slice Series, preceded by Slice 'n' Dice and Punkslice.
And for those who are wondering, the slices are natural, carved out to allow for the perfect, parallel movement of the various components of the lens. Those lens engineers sure know how to build them!
Approximate measurements: 2-1/4" L x 1-7/8" H x 1-3/4" W with an interior circumference of 6-3/4" and a 1" wrist opening. This would fit an average to smaller woman's wrist.
