Horsehair Raku
Description
Horsehair Raku is a very dramatic firing technique where pots are removed from the kiln while red hot (1600 degrees F) and horsehair is draped over the hot piece. On contact the horsehair burns and curls creating interesting, unique dark marks in the clay. This piece is approximately 4.25” high and 4.5” wide with a stripe of turquoise colorant around the rim which contrasts wonderfully with the white clay and dark markings of the horsehair.
Because of the firing process used, Horsehair Raku is not water tight so it should not be used in any manner that requires it to hold water. It is for decorative purposes only.
