Hot Pink Mandala Pinwheel made from Recycled Vinyl Record
Description
Whee! Mandala Pinwheels are here! The pinwheels are made from recycled vinyl records. They are hand painted with acrylics in my original design. The painted records have been sliced and shaped into a pinwheel design, then mounted onto painted metal stakes and finished with a groovy vintage radio knob. ___________________________________________________________
Mandala Pinwheels were made in collaboration with my friend Anitra Cameron of Coffee Pot People - please visit her Etsy shop at http://coffeepotpeople.etsy.com. Anitra provided the stakes, the radio knobs, and the bits of this & that which were used to put it all together, as well as the idea for creating the pinwheel shapes. Thanks for your help, Anitra!

I made the Mandala Pinwheels (with Anitra's help) for Live Debris 2009, a traveling series of events and installations dedicated to sharing and establishing new reuse traditions as a way of reducing stigmas around garbage, poverty and street culture. More info here: http://redsemillaroja.org
The pinwheels were installed on the Eastbank Esplanade along the Willamette River waterfront in Portland, OR for the Live Debris event. Now you can have one for your yard or garden!

A little more info:
The pinwheels are designed to go outdoors. Just stick it into the ground and enjoy! They will turn and spin a little bit in the wind and provide a beautiful, colorful decoration for your outdoor space. (They make cool shadows too!)
I recommend that you keep them in partial shade because we all know what happens when records get left out in the hot sun!
They have been coated with polyurethane to help protect the painting as well as the original record label which is still visible on the back of each piece. They will hold up pretty well outdoors, and I have left them in hot sun, but depending on how hot it gets where you live, you might want to just make sure they aren't exposed to super extreme temperatures.
The pinwheels are about 12" in diameter (30.48 cm) and about 3' tall (91.44 cm) from the top of the spinner to the bottom of the metal stake.
