Felted Elf Hat

Description

This add is for a custom made, seamless, elven style felt hat, similar to the one in the picture. The hat is made from 100% Romney wool. It is warm and cozy in fall and winter but does well in warmer weather as well due to the unique breathable quality of wool. It wold make an excellent accent for a Halloween costume.

This hat was expertly felted and fulled in our studios by my husband Moss. The design is based on our collaborative visions. We work together to create magical and inspired wearable and figurative art using the medium of wool.

Wet felting is a traditional and ancient art-form. The process involves layering wool then agitating it by massaging with hot soapy water to make a cohesive fabric. For hats, it is then molded over a special hat block specially made by myself and my husband Moss. The process is very labor intensive but creates a strong and durable fabric that has been used for centuries, in everything from tents (gers), hats, rugs to clothes.

Like all our work, this piece was inspired by the natural and supernatural realms...
