Primitive Folk Art Witch Make-Do
Description
This primitive folk art witch make-do is handmade of stuffed osnaburg by Stephanie Baker of Old World Primitives. This piece is 25" tall, and was created using a Kentucky Primitives pattern. Her body is heavily coffee stained to give her a primitive, time-worn look. She has a Halloween poem bonded to the front of her body - it is printed on two layers of stained paper, and reads:The time has come,
For the Witches' dance
And the spooks from far and near
Will gather and make merry
For Halloween is here
This witch doll's face is a photo transfer, and her hat is made of muslin that has been painted black, coffee stained, and lightly sanded. Her hair is made of string that has been stained and painted black, and her arms are made of stained cheesecloth pinned to her shoulders with rusty safety pins. Her left arm also has some Spanish moss twisted into it. This witch make-do is secured onto a vintage wooden bobbin base with twine.
