Postmodern Masterworks No. 5. Mrs. Richard Brinsley Sheridan with Soup.
Description
Know what's missing from the old masterworks? Product placement.A print from the collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. -- Gainsborough's "Mrs. Richard Brinsley Sheridan" -- improved upon with the introduction (through collage) of consumer products. Think of the opportunities for missed revenue.
It is, after all, our canned goods that say the most about who we are. Isn't it?
Warhol, perhaps, would understand.
Perhaps this is another critique of marketing and the extent to which it pervades and poisons American society. Perhaps I'm just irreverent and lack real talent. You decide.
The print is on thick paper sized 11 by 14. The image size is 8 5/8 inches by 12 inches. Signed and titled in the white margin, by me.
These prints kicked around in a classroom for years before I claimed them from the reycling bin, so they're not perfect: This one has two small rips in the bottom white margin, and a few smudges. I don't believe they detract from the effect.
Scandalize an art major. Mix this piece in with prints of traditional works.
I like Marcel Duchamp. Can you tell?
