Calamari - Mixed Metals Squid Pendant

I live in Florida and love the ocean. I'm constantly amazed at the unbelievable creatures swimming in the sea. This pendant is in honor of wonderous cephalapods--specifically the squid. Squid are actually extremely smart and have the amazing ability to shift thier body color almost instantly to blend into their surroundings, warn off threats, attract potential mates, or just because they feel like it. How cool is that?

I created my 3-inch squid pendant using layers of brass and copper riveted together. The main body is hammered and textured brass, the next layer is patina-colored copper, topped with a hammered copper frame. I used brass nail rivets with silver spacers for height. The 10mm squid eye is acrylic (taxidermy) set in a 14K gold bezel within a sterling silver cup. The tentacles are made from copper wire coated with sterling silver. I heated the ends to create balled tips, and in doing so revealed the heat-treated copper, which blends into the silver.

I've sprayed the pendant with clear acrylic specific for metals to hold the colors.
