The lighter-than-brownie consistency base is a deep brown and flavored not with chocolate chips or melted chocolate but only quality black cocoa powder. It gives the base a rich cocoa taste that is not overly sweet or overly chocolatey.

The nut topping is a mix of chopped deluxe salted tree nuts (no peanuts, though said nuts may have been processed with peanuts). The combination of the salty, crunchy nuts with a smoother cocoa base is irresistible and will have you craving these bars day and night. The bars also freeze well and make a great high protein snack that you can pull out of the freezer one by one (they warm up perfectly in the toaster oven) or devour all at once. While they have sugar and butter, the sugar is minimal and the base is only a small part of the bar itself.

Generally these are cut as squares but they may also be cut as circles, triangles, flowers, stars, ducks, moose, or whatever cookie cutters I have on hand (and I have a lot! Just ask if you're after a specific shape/animal).
