Punalulu handspun luxury artyarn (with knitted sample)
Description
In January 2004, I visited the Big Island of Hawaii. I visited many lovely places on that island, but one that really made an impression on my was Punalulu, a black sand beach. The jet black sand was actually very finely crushed lava, which is all over the island. It was such a peaceful beach, and there were giant turtles on the sand that were sunning themselves. The beach was studded with many emerald palm trees. How I wish I were back there now.“Punalulu” is a unique artyarn with several dozen small black lava beads spun in at intervals. The fibers include wool, mohair, tencel and bamboo. I dyed some of the fiber myself, including curly mohair locks. The combination of jet black, emerald, lime and other green is quite striking. The yarn is approximately 83 yards and 3.4 ounces/96 grams. It is an aran weight yarn, good for knitting on size 9US needles and up. Also great for crochet and other fiber art projects!
The sample was knit with US10 needles.
