Vintage British 1980s Pale Blue Night Gown Slip

Versatile vintage lingerie from Marks & Spencers Department Store that can be worn alone as intended, a slip dress, belted for a cinched waist and/or an undergarment peeking out from a skirt/dress.

St. Michael’s is a brand from Marks & Spencer, a famous British Department Store. "St. Michael" was Marks & Spencer’s' exclusive clothing brand for its classic garments sold in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It was finally abandoned in the 1980s.

St Michael, dubbed the patron saint of British underwear, was created in the 1920s as a tribute to the firm's founder Michael Marks. Archangel Michael is the guardian of the Jewish people.

UK Size: 12 Short, to fit bust 34”/86cm

Bust (armpit to armpit): 18” (46.5cm)
Shoulder (strap to strap): 9” (23.5cm)
Straps: 2.5” (1 cm) wide
Waist (at ribbon trim): 22" (56.5cm)
Total length (top to bottom): 40” (102.5cm)



COLOUR/DESIGN: Light blue silky nylon nightie or slip with dropped waist trimmed with ribbon and a bow. Bodice is trimmed with matching ribbon and gathered. Back is “Scalloped” hem has overstitching to create the ruffled effect. The simple but elegant style is reminiscent of the 1920s drop waist dresses. In the first picture, I have added a piece of vintage lace as a belt. Lace belt not included in listing.

LABEL: “St. Michael (trademark), Made in the U.K., 12 short length/ 40 taille, court”. See photos for front and back of label and for washing instructions.

CONDITION: excellent condition with no stains, holes and/or repairs. On the front, are 3 tiny "picks" that are hard to see unless examining closely. It has been gently hand washed with environmental friendly pure soap flakes and line dried.
