Ancient Sanddollar Necklace
Description
Wear a piece of ancient history. I found this fossil sand dollar at a rock shop in the Adirondacks. It is a Heliophora, a skirted sand dollar, from the Miocene period making it about 15 million years old. It was found in Mauritania in the Sahara Desert. The heliophora has been wrapped simply in copper wire and embellished with spirals to mimic the seabed where it once lived.
It hangs from a copper bail on a multistrand necklace of black and copper beads and copper chain. The 18 inch necklace closes with a lobster claw clasp. It has a 2 inch extender chain that allows you to adjust its length.
