KNITTING PATTERN upcycled party dress

Description

Skill level: intermediate

Sizes: 3-6 mos (6-9 mos, 9-12 mos, 1 yr, 2 yr, 3 yr, 4 yr, 5 yr)

Gauge: 5 sts/in over double seed stitch

Yarn: Plymouth’s Wildflower DK, cotton/acrylic blend, 50g (1 ¾ oz) 137 yds. Or any yarn that will give you the appropriate gauge. 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) balls.

Needles: 16 in circular US #6 or size to give you the stated gauge. One pair double pointed needles size US #4 or two sizes smaller than those used for the body of the piece.

I developed this pattern myself. I made the first upcycled party dress for my own daughter when she was a toddler. For the fabric I used one of my old maternity dresses.
The bodice of the dress is fairly quick to knit and finish. Salvaged fabric is then sewn onto the knitted piece to make an upcycled dress. You can use a dress out of your own closet for your daughter’s dress. Or use a thrift store find. The fabric can also be recycled from an old table cloth or pillow case. Anything you like!
