Stripes- Greyhound Linocut Art
Description
"Stripes"Linocut, 2009
Dark blue ink on mint Lokta paper
Image size 6 x 8"
"Stripes" is a linoleum block print (also known as a "linocut") on Lama Li Lokta paper from Nepal. The Artist's Proof of this image was exhibited at the 2009 Greyhounds In Art Show in Dewey Beach, Delaware. I'm excited to offer the open edition of this print on Etsy!
Can you guess the name of the guy who posed for this piece of art? That's right, my handsome boy Cliff!
Block printing is an ancient Japanese art form that entails carving an image into a block (traditionally a wood block, but more "contemporary" materials include linoleum, rubber, styrofoam, etc); rolling ink over the carved block; and then pressing the block against paper to get a reproduction of the image. All of this is done by hand in my art studio, under the strict supervision of my 3 retired racing greyhounds Lucy, Clifford, and our new boy Jack. :o)
Please note: Because each print is from a hand-inked and hand-pressed block, no two are exactly alike. These slight differences are a unique quality of the block-printing art form.
