Thaumatrope. Beetle in a jar.

Description

A thaumatrope was a popular Victorian toy- an image is printed on each side, and when the strings are twirled, they combine to form one image. A pleasing optical illusion.

On this one a screenprinted beetle on one side combines with a jar on the other so that twizzling it inserts the beetle into the jar so it won't be scuttling round scaring your guests. It's smashing, and once you have finished playing it looks very nice displayed hanging on a wall or else where (since it is quite small and portable). I can make a beetle ornament if you prefer. Or a jar ornament, but that's just faintly bizarre.

A 4 inch circle has been cut from mountboard and printed very black waterproof acrylic ink for the beetle and green ink for the jar rubber stamp.
