Inverness - Letterpress Broadside

Description

"Inverness" is a poem I wrote while travelling in Scotland about five years ago. I was inspired by these brilliant red berries, and a tour-guide told me the trees were called Rowan. When I got back to America, I hand-set the type and printed it on an antique letterpress machine. I put the prints in a box and kept them there for a long time, until just recently when I pulled out them out and watercolored a vegetal/berry motif onto each of them. Finally, they feel finished to me.

This broadside features my poem, letterpress-printed in a flame-red color onto a cream-colored printmaking paper and embellished in watercolor. I made a limited edition of 11 prints, and they are all signed and numbered in pencil. (Note: these are original prints, NOT reproductions!) The berry motifs were all hand-painted, so while they are very similar, there are slight variations between each one. The print measures 5" x 7" (12.7 cm x 17.7 cm), and is a standard size for framing if you choose to do so.

The print will be shipped flat via First Class Mail, wrapped in a cello sleeve and sandwiched between cardboard for its protection.

In case you're wondering, Inverness is a city in northern Scotland and very close to Loch Ness. (I never did see Nessie. Those waters are dark!)
