The Background Story:

Rummaging through a shipment of flea market finds from Belgium I came across a bit of this amazing "new to me" material. I had never in my life seen it before, and am afraid I never will again.

At first it just looked like a piece of yellowed vintage cardstock with some interesting designs printed onto one side of it, but upon further investigation I realized what it really was. The designs were not on the card itself, but rather on a sort of tissue paper adhered to the card, and between the tissue and the card I would find a treasure.

It was some sort of gold leaf, but with graphic lines integrated into it. Most of the cards were badly damaged, but there were a few salvageable pieces, and I had to have them. I was told this material was used in the late 1800's, and that it would have been transferred onto the glass fronts of display cases to highlight the latest "special model" of whatever was contained within the case.

I didn't know how I might use it, but I felt the obligation to save it from being further damaged and eventually thrown out. This was something I had to share with the world!

This piece is the manifestation of the inspiration from this new material; the second piece in a series that will incorporate the leaf.
