150g Space-dyed Merino/Cashmere Top - Strata

Description

Another of my new fibre blend tops, gorgeous, super soft Merino/Cashmere! This is a blend of very fine 18.5 micron merino and white cashmere. The exact percentage of each fibre wasn't given when I bought it, but I imagine it is about 25% cashmere.

I hand-dyed it with acid dyes, in a technique known (here in the UK) as space-dyeing, colours poured across the tops in stripes and steamed to set.

This colourway I called Strata, rich earthy shades of chocolate brown, dark purplish blue, soft beige, a greenish grey and a rich golden ochre. The colour sequence repeats about every yard, so you can vary the colour effects as you spin. Spin just as it comes for long sections of colour, or split the top down and pre-draft for shorter colour bursts. Then you have the further option of plying it back on itself to mingle the colours, or navajo ply to keep them distinct.

I have included several pictures, to try and give a good idea of the colour, but I can't guarantee that it will look exactly the same on your screen as it does on mine!
