Sterling Silver Pendant with Fossilized Ammonite
Description
Sterling Silver Pendant with Fossilized AmmoniteI have always been intrigued by fossils so I just had to use this ammonite in a pendant. The ammonite is an extinct marine mollusk that lived about 200 million years ago. They are related to the nautilus. The outside looks rough and brown - not very exciting- but when they are sliced open and polished they reveal beautiful chambers which seem to be filled with crystals.
I set this piece in a fine silver bezel and added stamped wire and fine silver spheres around it. The back is cut out to reveal the back side of the ammonite. The bail is stationary and can be threaded onto a chain or choker.
The pendant is about 2 inches long and about 1 1/4 inches at the widest area.
