Scarab Pendant Necklace
Description
A real Phanaeus mexicanus scarab beetle is used in this pendant necklace. Set on a verdigris-copper finish floral pendant, the raku-like colors of the beetle look very sophisticated.P. mexicanus is a type of dung beetle, and here you can see the male with his Triceratops-like "horn". He changes color with the light, shining metallic copper-red or emerald green.
Beetle pendant is attached to a 16" black neckwire with a silver metallic clasp. Verdigris pendant measures 28mm tall x 23mm wide. The beetle itself is 23mm tall. Comes in a giftbox.
My "Living Jewels" insect jewelry collection uses real beetles in place of gemstones. I wanted to show beetles in this way because they are every bit as gorgeous as real gemstones. The chitin that makes up the beetle's hard outer parts is one of the most durable materials in the natural world, and the exposed beetle should therefore be surprisingly durable to the elements. I have been testing them for over a year now with good results. I have glued the wings shut for extra protection. Treat this as a fine piece of jewelry and store in your jewelry box, and it should last for many years to come. All of my insect jewelry is guaranteed for one year. Each piece comes with more detailed care instructions.
Insects have been sustainably farmed for my art. For more details, please contact me or check my blog at www.insectartonline.com
