Silver Weevil Necklace

My favorite necklace so far; I just love weevils!!
A real Eupholus magnificus weevil is used in this pendant necklace. Set on a silver-plated filigree pendant, the striking blue colors of the weevil look very elegant.

Eupholus magnificus is a type of weevil from Papua New Guinea. They are colored in a "magnificant" pattern of metallic blue and sea-green.

Beetle pendant is attached to a 16" black neckwire with a silver metallic clasp. (See the last photo for an example of the neckwire. Photo shows a different pendant attached) Silver pendant measures 32mm tall x 22mm wide. The beetle itself is about 23mm tall. Comes in a giftbox.

My "Living Jewels" insect jewelry collection uses real beetles in place of gemstones. I wanted to show beetles in this way because they are every bit as gorgeous as real gemstones. The chitin that makes up the beetle's hard outer parts is one of the most durable materials in the natural world, and the exposed beetle should therefore be surprisingly durable to the elements. I have been testing them for over a year now with good results. I have glued the wings shut for extra protection. Treat this as a fine piece of jewelry and store in your jewelry box, and it should last for many years to come. All of my insect jewelry is guaranteed for one year.
