Sensitive Fern Cup

Description

This tea bowl is made of white stoneware clay fired to cone 6. It was made on a wheel and the foot is trimmed. It is glazed on the inside and rim with a satin blue glaze. The colors vary from light blue with dark blue speckles. The glaze is tan where it was thinner.

This tea bowl stands 3 and 5/8 inches tall and the rim spans 3 and 3/8 inches across. The cup measures 12 and 3/8 inches around at its widest point and the trimmed foot tapers to 2 inches across. It holds 1 and 1/3 cups of liquid.

The outside is textured and imprinted with real leaves. After wards it was painted and rubbed with an iron oxide. This intensifies the veins of the leaves and once fired, the colors are permanent and waterproof. The leaves used were the fronds of sensitive fern.
