Tuckernuck brown worn out vintage leather journal
Description
Tuckernuck! Covered in an olde leather jacket... the edge is lined with red and white vintage fabric. The front cover is wider than the rest of the book...
A number of years ago i wandered up to Montreal for a craft and music festival. It was in The Fall and the drive was spectacular. I made the drive last 2 days, staying in an olde factory towne with loads of abandoned buildings and a beautiful lake. It was nighttime when I arrived, I had been driving in the dark where toads played chicken on the lonely road before me. I was listening to Lady and Bird ad infinitum.
The day after the next was the Puces Pop Festival. There was music and crafty things and people and a chill. I was sitting or standing or doing something awkwardly, as I tend to do, when handed to me was a little plastic cup filled with whiskey. "What great fortune!" I thought. The girl pointed up to the balcony where sat some other girls. "We heard you came alone from Philadelphia..." and she walked away. I sipped at the whiskey and became more brazen. A boy approached in a book, I mean, in an olde leather jacket. He quietly looked at my stuff then asked, "where do you get the leather?". I poked his jacket in response. I was wearing a long black dress. "Well, when I am done, you can have it."
At the shows close, the boy caught up with me and we walked around the olde city, and though he wasn't from there, he took me to the best possible place. We walked and we sat down on a bench in a little park opposite a pagoda. I thought, or said, "I wonder if Leonard played here." And then he pointed to a light on in a room on the second floor of a house. "Leonard Cohen lives there."
If I was thinking or had more books or better books I would have chosen the best and wrapped it in brown paper, tied it off with some twine, I would have written a love letter perhaps, and would have quietly left it in the door.
A few days ago a package arrived. The jacket was bundled up tightly with a note.
I have never returned to Montreal. I got a ticket that day and I am waiting for it to fade...
This book was made out of the panely part along the zipper. There was a hole in it which ended up on the spine (2nd photograph). I put some olde French paper behind it from the 1700s.
