It is the Time of the Dragon! A beautiful silvery Dragon is featured in this steampunk necklace. Dragons are often a symbol of power and creation - and in Chinese astrology they are the most powerful of the signs. Every 12 years the Year of the Dragon comes around.

Even though the dragon isn't my sign I still admire the wonderful idea of them. This striking necklace features a beautiful silver plated dragon set against an old porcelian pocket watch face. This was an Elgin face - made around 1900. It has roman numerals and where the second hands once were you'll notice a pretty brass gear - a 2nd wheel - taken from another Elgin watch.

Because the watch face is so old it has a few cracks - and a small edge chip. I've provided a macro shot so you can see the problem. Still, considering the fact its over 100 yrs old - its in fantastic shape. I've also coated it to give it some added protection. Unless you drop it or treat it roughly it will be fine. The dragon actually adds a bit of protection.

There is a simple black gear at the top, and a tiny droplet that gives it a bit more detail. Its on a great chain as well - a black double-link spiral chain. I think the chain goes well with the dark aspects of this piece.

Its a bit steampunk, a bit gothic, but really can be worn by any dragon lover - or just someone who is looking for an unusual, one of a kind necklace. Perfect to dress up or down - or for that special dragon in your life.
