Goats and Orchid Plate

Description

This dish is made of recycled window glass and is part of my "Chinoiserie Sauvage" series of mixed flora and fauna imagery. Each plate in this series is unique -- no two designs are repeated. All images are hand-painted. And each plate is signed on the back.

Size: 10" x 7" (26cm x 18cm)

I handpaint the imagery using traditional porcelain painting techniques. The paints I use are traditional glass enamels, similar to porcelain paints or ceramic glaze. They heat to 1300 degrees F, and they fuse permanently to the glass. The image will never scratch or fade.

The glass in this dish is 100% recycled window glass, salvaged from a discarded window pane. Unlike glass bottles, sheet glass is not recycled by most municipal recycling programs and otherwise ends up in landfills.

All my glass dishes are strong and durable. I anneal the glass in a kiln for up to ten hours to give it maximum strength. They are also food-safe (free of toxic metals) and dishwasher-safe.
