This abstract painting is one of a new series of small abstract paintings on paper, distillations of landscape - textural colour studies. I find colour inspiration in the rural environment, in the elemental and ephemeral, the transient colours of the seasons, the environmental signs of corrosion, erosion and gradual decay - crumbling brickwork, old walls, encrusted patinas, eroded facades, eroded waterlines, striations, traces and strata, structures exposed to the natural elements.
