Times Are Tough - Upcycled Credit Card Mirror
Description
(I made this a while ago and thought I'd hang it on my Etsy shop wall again. :) )Ok, I know you're supposed to cut up your old credit cards but then what?! The little pieces of plastic were so pretty that I just couldn't bring myself to throw them away. So I said to myself "Mosaic!" and here's the finished result. The text was done by punching letters onto scraps of aluminum. Not only is this piece functional as a mirror but it's also a cautionary tale about the dangers of falling into the credit card trap. :) A little Shylock / a little Dorian Gray / a Little House on the Prairie making things out of nothing. :)
This mirror is made up of cut-up credit cards (I took care to remove any long strings of numbers) and aluminum adhered to a wooden base. A coating of resin adds a high gloss finish. You'll find my "signature" on one side of the frame. :)
The outside dimensions are 10" x 10" and the inside dimensions are 3 3/4" x 3 3/4".
I had a lot of fun making this mirror and it makes me laugh. Enjoy!
