While the other women held fast to their hearths, the smallest warrior challenged the young men of the tribe to every competition they knew. She won, quite handily. That was simply the beginning of her legend. When the wars came, the smallest warrior was the savior of the tribes, and she was celebrated at every fireside. Never one to boast, she simply smiled, fingered the stone leaves of her necklace, and moved on to the next hunt.

*Sugilite is a rare gemstone, discovered for the first time in 1944 by a Japanese scientist. It is a pink to purple cyclosilicate mineral (the petals in this necklace are a lush purple), and can be found in only a few places in the world.
