Vintage 20s Navajo Sterling Silver Turquoise Pawn Brooch Pin
Description
There is simply an organic beauty in this old and wonderful vintage 20's Navajo sterling silver and turquoise pin. This handsome example of early Navajo silver work is all handwrought, and dates to the 1920's when jewelry was sold by local smiths and tradesman, to travelers at different rail stops (a.k.a 'stagecoach' or 'railroad' jewelry) throughout the Southwest.
It is comprised of unmarked sterling silver, cut from thick gauge sheeting, hand stamped, embossed, and with two applied whirling log symbols -- and bezel set with a beautiful American turquoise cab of vibrant robin’s egg blue with wonderful caramel colored matrixing.
The oval shaped cab measures a generous 20mm in width, and the pin itself is 2&1/2 inches wide by 1 inch high, and weighs 11.4 grams.
A truly wonderful piece of early Native American craftsmanship.
