Description

St. Monica was a holy woman who had to spend a large portion of her life nagging her heathen family to repent. First it was her husband who finally gave in on his death bed. Then it was her son.

Monica’s son was a brilliant boy, but a very bad one. Debauchery was his middle name. “Augustine Debauchery of Hippo” eventually became “SAINT Augustine of Hippo” and a Doctor of the Church, one of the most important theological thinkers in Church history. So Monica's strategy worked.

After the death of her husband and before the sainthood of her son, Monica followed Augustine all around the known world nagging him and crying for his soul. When the Spanish Conquistadors first arrived in California they happened upon a rock that was burbling water non-stop. It reminded them of St. Monica, crying for her son and they named the town Santa Monica.
