Description
This is an original miniature watercolour painting of a bright and beautiful Orange Lacewing butterfly, measuring 2.5x3.5 inches.On a recent trip to Cairns in tropical North Queensland, I visited the Butterfly Sanctuary in Kuranda, an amazing little town in the middle of a rainforest. I'd never seen so many different butterflies before! In nature, you might see this particular species in the very northern areas of Australia, also Southeast Asia. The Orange Lacewing adult has a wingspan of up to 7cm, so this little painting is just about life-size.
That visit to the Butterfly Sanctuary introduced me to this species, and inspired me to make this little painting. I've really gone all out on detailing this one with a very fine-tipped ink pen, then painted with watercolour.
