Description

Description: Quanah Parker earrings with dangling eagle feathers are part of the “Our Heroes” Native American Jewelry collection by Paula Bidwell of Native Talisman Art. They measure 3 inches long including fan and feathers by 1.25 inches wide. They are extremely light weight and can be worn even through the night without discomfort. Made from hand crafted hardened acrylic and edged in gold leaf with surgical steel ear wires.

History: Quanah Parker, heroic Commanche warrior was also a spiritual leader and founder of the Native American Church. He was a half breed, his father a Commanche and his mother a white woman. Our beloved Quanah was both a major resistor to white settlers, as well as a leader in the tribe’s adjustment to reservation life. He promoted self-sufficiency and self-reliance on the reservation -- building schools, creating ranching operations, and planting crops. Overall, he encouraged the tribe to learn the white man’s ways. However, he did not reject his traditions.

Inspiration: The Epitaph of Quanah Parker

Do not stand at my grave and weep

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamond glint in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush.

I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there,
I do not sleep.

Ai!
