Small Dish - Dahlia Flower

Description

This small organic dish started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I cut into a circle and then impressed with my "Dahlia" plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!). I then used another of my handmade stamps to create a border around the flower.

After laying it over a round slump mould I made, I added 3 small coiled feet to the bottom, which the bowl sits proudly on. It measures about 6" across and 1 1/2" high. I've glazed this bowl in 4 different glazes. The ornamental flower is glazed in a transparent gloss cobalt blue. Then I dipped the edge in cream matte, and finished the edge with gloss black, which flows nicely down the edges. I also painted a circular area around the flower in gloss turquoise blue, which highlights the added stamped area. This is a lovely, organic bowl, which will make any area it sits in proud to have it!! The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes. Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!
