I've been searching for an attractive dressmakers ham for years, but I've never found anything I liked well enough to buy.

I finally made my own, and loved him so much, I decided to share.

This little piggie is made from an upcycled wool sweater and a beautiful piece of shibori, hand-dyed by me. The sweater is washed in hot water to felt up, then cut and layered with another piece of wool to form the top layer -- or pressing area -- of the ham. The bottom is made from 100% cotton, hand-dyed by me, layered with a sturdy piece of upcycled cotton twill underneath it.

He's stuffed with scraps from my sewing - mostly cotton and wool, and a little bit of silk. That means that this little guy is made almost entirely of materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

After stuffing, he's stuffed again, and again, for a satisfyingly firm ham.

He's a wonderful gift for the sewer in your life, and something that will last for generations.

Now what's not to love about that?
