THE STORY
Again, my bestest Jewishest friend Corey-Jan came up with this one! Here's what Wikipedia says about the word simcha (why didn't I learn this one in Hebrew school):

Literally, the word "simcha" means gladness, or joy. It is a great mitzvah (commandment) to always be in a state of happiness. When a person is happy they are much more capable of serving God and going about their daily activities than when depressed or upset. The term is used for any happy occasion, such as a wedding, Bar Mitzvah, Brit Milah or engagement.

Okay, hello? I LOVE LOVE this idea! Why didn't I ever know about this before? To me it means that not only is it okay to be happy (even when there's so much crap in the world and cute little squirrels are being run over), it's actually a BLESSING to be happy! Yay - God wants us happy! Oh, joy! hee hee
