Description

Striking 1980s avant-garde novelty tweed coat designed by Maryse Roye for Shiff, a fine Canadian coat manufacturer.

Single breasted, the large padded shoulders frame a angular front whereas the back tapers in creating a more rounded cocoon styling. It has a high collar and an asymmetrical twist having two of the four massive round buttons close off side. Slanted, and very deep, welt pockets start just below the waistline and the welt is extended and swags to a pleated lower back.

The overall design of the novelty pure virgin wool tweed was created by a grid done in black yarn. Each square within the grid is done in rich shades of either blue, red and green combined with black in random directions. The piping and inter-lining around the collar and openings are done in a soft napped black faux chamois and it is otherwise fully lined in a cotton backed black acetate.

VINTAGE RATING/CONDITION (see chart below):
Excellent condition! The two lower back buttons attached to the swag have some wear and scratched - this is normal wear from sitting. As well, there were some loose threads around one of the buttons holes and another button hole needed some reinforcing - both these issues have now been addressed and the coat is ready to wear!
