MAN IS THE HERO OF GEOGRAPHY

From my introduction:

"This summer I went to a yard sale where I found a geography workbook from 1973. I'd guess it was used by 12- or 13-year-olds, kids in sixth grade or thereabouts. I love looking at things like this, old schoolbooks and stuff, but unfortunately this one was only filled in up to page 12. [...grouchy criticism of school here...] Luckily for us the final entry in the book is its crowning glory: MAN IS THE HERO OF GEOGRAPHY. (Directions: In the space below, discuss this statement: Man himself is the hero of any study of geography.) Inspired by this kid's stupid answer to this stupid question, I have filled in some of the book's other pages."

So, yeah, that's what I did. I carried this old workbook around with me for a while and whenever I thought of something I liked the sound of I gave it as an answer to one the questions. I also carefully printed a poem in the space where an essay question should go. I had fun doing this, and the result is eccentric and possibly somewhat interesting to read.
