Bidelia's Bower - Faerie Journal in Teal Suede

This magical faerie journal is 5 1/4″ tall and 4 1/4″ wide with 288 pages, making it 1" thick. Covered in a doubled thickness of butter-soft suede that I hand-dyed a beautiful teal, which I hand painted with black Jacquard Neopaque paint and accented it with a silver glitter gel pen, this book is a rare faerie treat.

The silhouette on the cover is of gentle Bidelia, which means "the High One," sitting in her favorite mystical bower, creating glorious butterflies out of faerie dust and whispering them on their way.

I hand decorated each page in this fabulous book using two different techniques and a combination of acrylic paints that gives the pages a lovely, twinkly sheen, like a faerie's wing.

There are six stacks of 12 sheets each, which equates to 24 pages per stack for a total page count of 144 for the entire book block. Counting both the back and front of each page increases the total to 288 pages. I hand ripped all of the edges to give the pages a soft, cloth-like feel.

I bound the book block to the suede binding using a very strong waxed linen thread, one end of which ends in a bookmark with a dainty hummingbird attached and the other end of which is used to wrap around the journal to keep it closed. I hand hammered a silver wire charm into the shape of a faerie star wand (a faerie star is a seven pointed star) for the closure thread that self-tucks to secure -- so spell binding!
