Small Bowl - Bird on Branch

Description

This small organic bowl started it's life as a thin slab of porcelain clay, which I cut into a circle and then impressed with my "Bird on Branch" plaster mould (see my shop for ornaments and magnets made from this same mould!). I then used another of my stamps to create a border around the bird.

After laying it over a round slump mould I made, I added 3 small coiled feet to the bottom, which the bowl sits proudly on. It measures about 6" across and 1 1/2" high. I've glazed this bowl in 2 different glazes. The Bird on Branch and stamped border are glazed in a glossy, transparent robins egg blue. Then I sprayed my stony cream matte over the rest of the bowl, including the border area, where it flows into the blue, creating a soft green tone. Then I wiped the cream off of the edge of the bowl and painted a line of blue, which flows into the cream with a halo of green around the edge. This is a lovely, organic bowl, which will make any area it sits in proud to have it!! The glazes are mid-range stoneware, food and dishwasher safe.

I'm beginning to explore the use of my "tiny tile" moulds to create functional objects such as bowls, cups, salt & pepper shakers, and serving dishes. Watch for more one-of-a-kind pieces coming soon!
