Abstract Celtic Enameled Necklace
Description
Early Celtic art, in the Iron Age, was far more abstract and simple than the later art of the middle ages. This does not mean that it was less sophisticated - it just reflected a different aesthetic. This piece is put together from simple shapes: spirals teardrops and curved-sided triangles - all part of the 'grammar' of ornament of the early continental Celts.
The piece is most often seen as a woman's figure, but can also be seen as the stylised head of a bull. This attribute of having two ways of seeing it is a common characteristic of Iron Age design.
This piece is made in the ancient Celtic technique of champleve with cloisonne details. It is made with copper and vitreous enamel, which has been fired from 5 to 7 times. It is enameled on the back (counter-enamelled) and signed.
It is in stock now and can be at your door in 5 - 7 days
