Have you ever wanted a journal that would inspire wonder and intrigue as an object in and of itself? Ever spied a dusty old book at an antique store with its glint of gilded cover and thought "Ah, to be an old hobbit and sit down to record my adventure in a romantic old tome." Want a journal worthy of fantastic yarns or history you are about to record? Know someone who does?
This journal is the first of what I hope to be many that I construct. The saying "Don't judge a book by its cover." is timeless but as a book maker I revel in the construction and embellishment of book covers and before I knew how to make books, I would always pour over the elaborate design of covers from books made in the past.
"Perfect Binding" and plastic laminated covers are the way of the future. The market is awash with soft cover books and crude spiral bindings. But I know you, you want the feel of a tightly braided coptic binding that I have woven myself on a dimly lit afternoon, nimbly weaving thread and magic together with beeswax. You want the burgandy cover that I printed myself and glued by hand with a stiff bristle brush and then laid to rest under the heavy platen of an archaic nipping press. You want to have your gaze mesmerized by the warm twisting of two golden dragons dueling for the sun that I designed myself, carved myself, printed myself, and then dusted with gold myself. Inside the covers, I have stamped a flame swirled sun that I also designed and carved myself and then signatured and dated this book in archival ink. This is a vessel that has been imbued with my love and will carry your recordings forever as truly something special.
