Great Wheel of Depression - rare green vintage Depression sea glass necklace
Description
The Great Depression...hard times, drab clothing, and beautiful glassware!During the Great Depression, colored translucent glassware was distributed for free by companies in the US as an incentive to purchase their goods or services.
In the first half of the twentieth century, colors like pale lime greens were very popular, often called 'vaseline' glass.
This gorgeous wheel pendant features a large, faceted light green crystal and two rare pieces of genuine vintage beachcombed sea glass.
Sea glass usually comes from old vintage glass medicine jars and spirit bottles tossed overboard by fishermen decades ago.
Natural sea glass can only be weathered by time, sand and tide - man's folly turned into nature's beauty.
These two light green sea glass gems are very old, and can potentially date back as far as the early 1930's.
This green trio has been wound and wound by fine wire into a gorgeously large wheel measuring 1 1/2" in diameter.
I've attached a sparkly fine, 18" long, .925 silver plated chain with a Victorian vintage fish hook closure. The joints have been lovingly soldered by me for strength and durability.
What a statement this Depression Wheel will make on your neckline -
It will remind you of all we have to be thankful for.
