Black Cherry Square, .86 oz top whorl drop spindle

Description

This spindle is very cool! Bring your yarn up just about anywhere, the design has built in notches (these can be a little too grabby for beginners/more bulky yarns but are smoothly finished so as not to catch finer yarns). They are well balanced and hold a long spin. And the best part? This won't roll away when you set it down.

Let me know if you'd like this in another stain...shown in last pic are black cherry, red oak, and espresso.

Whorl: 3 x 3 inches, hand-rubbed black cherry stain

note: As with the stained flower spindles, I do not "make" these whorls. They are embossed wood appliques that I buy from a woodworking store. I do prepare them (drill, carefully grind off any burrs/sharp edges, lightly sand and stain) for use as whorls. I also shape, sand, stain, and pre-drill the shafts for the hooks before assembling.

Shaft: hand-rubbed black cherry stain, blunt beveled end
Total Weight: .86 oz/24 gms
Total Length (including hook): 11 inches/27.9 cms

Fine Details: I use tiny, solid brass eye screws (opened and polished) rather than bulky cup hooks. Once complete, each spindle is sealed with several coats of premium satin polyurethane, hand-rubbed with fine steel wool between coats. Each spindle is signed, dated and the weight in fine print on the bottom of the whorl.
