Description

In Victorian times, the millinery trade was in it's heyday - the chapeaus danced and bobbed through the streets in every crowd: from tiny saucers of satiny froth and lace, to bombastic frivilous ostrich feathers with huge bows and floppy brims, to prim equestrian top hats secured with austere organza, to simple straw bonnets tied with a beloved gingham or calico. A woman was considered undressed if her head was uncovered.

To my mind, a single bead is not fully adorned as a piece of jewelry until it is finished with it's own cap. These sweet little Periwinkle flowers do the trick! This lovely little pair of milk glass rondelles are graced by a pair of handcratfted bead caps, adding an air of quiet Victorian elegance, polish, and sophistication. Add them to any bead, however casual or refined, for a look that is sure to draw attention.

All together, there are almost 80 photos in this PDF format tutorial, with highly detailed instructions, design notes, and photographs to guide novice and intermediate wireworkers to a new level of mastery through the successful completion of the project.

There are 2 mini tutorials included: How to Hand Wrap Wire Coils - with tips for building smooth, even wrapping skills AND Bead Caps that Stay Put - a solution for tilted bead caps that can be applied to ANY cap, whether commercial or handcrafted!

This design can be very easily modified for almost any bead type, and the variations are only limited by your imagination. It also happens to be the introduction step for making the larger wired beads that I post regularly on the Year of jewelry project, found here:
