der Mond / the moon enamel earrings

Description

i never in a million years thought that this pair of earrings would come out of the kiln looking like this, but they did. enamel is pretty awesome like that.

these copper discs have been enameled in white with traces of lavender, raspberry, pink, and violet. to me, the pattern is evocative of a slide viewed through a microscope, or of the moon through a telescope.

discs measure 1" (2.54 cm) in diameter and have been counter-enameled and oxidized. i've also sealed the exposed copper with lacquer and carved my initials into the surface. the earrings hang from sterling silver shepherd hook ear wires.
