Free U.S. and Canada Shipping Antique Louisiana Baby Bond circa 1880's
Description
Cute piece of history! These $5 baby bonds were issued in Louisiana in the 1870's and 1880's. This particular bond was payable between Feb 1, 1884-Feb 1, 1886, though it looks to be uncancelled. Bond is in good shape, with just a few corner and bottom creases and slight discoloration due to age. The name of the infamous Louisiana state treasurer Ed Bunker is stamped (I don't believe that to be his signature) on the bottom of the certificate. He is said to have reprinted about $300,000 worth of illegal baby bonds that were found in his safety deposit box. To avoid getting caught, he fled to Brazil! It looks like the signature of the Louisiana Governor at the time is on the baby bond, but it could also be a stamp.Great, affordable gift for a history lover! Would look wonderful framed, or added to a scrapbook layout.
Item will be packaged carefully in a plastic sleeve, placed in a rigid photo mailer for safe delivery.
