Elongated Bowl Form in Figured Beach Almond
Description
I finished this piece recently from salvaged (treefall) beach almond, a coastal tree growing in north eastern Australia. The wood has a wonderful pink brown color and is very highly figured.The form is a long drawn-out organic shape .. similar to the boat shapes that glass and ceramic artists like to make, but with my simplified flattened treatment.
This is mostly intended to live life as a display piece, but the finish is food safe so can be be used for serving. I was thinking that if you did want to use this piece, it would be great for sashimi or antipasto.
