Description

We created this one of a kind buckle using a section of the cover of an amazing old book which we found at our local Friend of the Library sale. The book was being taken out of circulation because the pages weren't in great shape. We saved the book's cover art from being thrown out and set it in a buckle to be preserved and enjoyed for years. The pewter buckle and a thick layer of resin offer great protection to the image. So feel free to beat it up a bit, it can take it.

It measures 2 1/2" by 3 1/4" and will fit either a 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" belt. If you need a belt to go with this buckle, be sure to check out the hand dyed/distressed belts in our store!

FAQ:

Q: Isn't ripping up old books a morally bad thing to do?

A: If we were going into schools and stealing textbooks from children's lockers in the middle of the night and making them into accessories then, yes, we would be bad people.
The truth is, once schools no longer have a use for their books, they send them to recycling centers where they recycle the pages and have the covers mulched and sent to dumps.

Q: Why don't schools just donate the books to people who need them?

A: Sometime they do, but most charities will not even accept school discards. It is the policy of most of the Salvation Army's and Goodwill's in our area to just throw out books that they receive from schools and libraries because the pages are generally in such bad condition. They do not want to take the time to even sort through them since they can keep so few.

Q: So you are actually repurposing something that would otherwise end up in a landfill?

A: Exactly. We find new uses for the parts of the book that are not recyclable and then take the pages to our local recycling center.

Q: Wow, you sound like really great people. I'm sorry for doubting you. (Not actually a "Question")

A: That's okay. (More of a "Reply" than an "Answer" really)
