Description

This is an original reduction woodcut print, measuring approximatly 6.5 inches by 9.5 inches. Printed with oil based inks on high quality paper (Arches 88) approximatly 9 inches by 12 inches. Each print is signed and numbered, the edition size is 30.

To make a reduction woodcut print, I start with a piece of birch plywood. All the colors are printed from this one block of wood, one at a time, and one on top of the other. First the lightest color is printed. Then, and also after each successive color, more of the surface of the wood is cut away. Using a registration system so that the paper goes down on the wood the same way every time, I continue printing and cutting until there is very little left of the surface and the last color has been printed. There is no way of going back and fixing your mistakes once a color has been printed and the surface has been removed. Each color must be carefully printed for the entire edition before moving on to the next color.
