She blushed and looked down, the fringe of her eyelashes fanning her cheeks. When she looked up again she fixed him with a fierce, unspoken dare. He followed her through the train cars, sliding door after sliding door. When they could go no further, the open vistas were speeding by them in the picture windows of the train’s cafe car. She ordered some pretzels, a little wine in a squat plastic cup, and slid into him with some speed as her bottom hit the hard plastic seat. “I’ll tell you,” she said teasingly, “but you have to promise me something.”
