Vintage Japanese kimono silk fabric panel red grey checkerboard meisen ikat
Description
Feeling geometric in a double ikat (meisen) weave with shades of gray, bright red, mustard yellow and ivory white. This silk has a light touch with a slight stiffness, typical of meisen. In excellent condition but for a few cuts along the selvedge. Likely dates from the 1930's-1950's.Measurements: 13.75" x 46.5" (35 cm x 118 cm)
This panel of silk was carefully unpicked from a vintage haori (kimono jacket), a process that takes on average two hours per garment. As with any vintage textile, signs of age and wear are to be expected.
